TITAN RAIDERS EARN THIRD CONSECUTIVE "RAIDER GUARD" CAMPIONSHIP. The Heide Trask JROTC Raider Team took top honors at the annual Fort Pickett based competition hosted by Fishbourne Military School. In the individual events, the local team placed third among the 17 competing teams in Orienteering, second in Rope Bridge and won the MAPFT (phyical fitness), the First Aid/Litter Carry and 5K Forced March. Winning individual honors in the fitness competition were Tavis Dunn who won the mile run with a time of 5:19 and Torry Newkirk whose 59 sit-ups in one minute was third best among some 150 competitors. The Titan team was accompanied by their "B Team" consisting of future competitors and the Trask Cross Country Coach, Ms Melynda Johnson, who served as a chaperone and "exhibition" competitor. Pictures to follow.

NC CHAMPIONSHIP ELUDES RAIDER TEAM. With four Virginia Raider Competition championships to their credit and multiple second and third place finishes in NC Raider competitions, the Titan team appeared poised to capture their first NC championship at the Harnett Central HS meet earlier this month. As results were posted and successes mounted (first in PT, third in first aid/litter carry, 6th in rope bridge, and second in forced march), a credible finish in the final event of the day (the tug-of-war)appeared to be all that was needed to take top honors. Situation looked better and better as the Titan team out pulled Johnston County, Foard Team 1 and Hoke enroute to the championship match-up against the Bengals of Bassett (VA) high school. The ultimate Titan victory in this final event, however, was not included in the overall results due to "errors" made in the process. Without the benefit of the final event first place, then, Titans were forced to settle for yet another second place finish overall. Congratulations due to a very strong Foard team. Appreciation due to MAJ Watkins and the Harnett Central hosts for an excellent meet. Congratulations also due both Trask Blue and Trask Gray teams for their efforts (Gray team trophied at third place in the tug-of-war)and their successes. NOTE: Raiders Angel Roman and Travis Dunn won first and third place medallions, respectively, for being first and third in the MAPFT.

Titan Raiders were unlikely 3d place winners at North Brunswick Raider Meet on Saturday, 24 Feb. Competing without five of eight primary/varsity raiders, participants placed 7th of 17 teams in the first (MPFT) event and 4th in Forced March. Their "perfect treatment" of the causalty in first aid event meant that the litter carry time would break was was eventually a multiple team tie--Titan time of 22.6 was second best by less than one second. With a single second place going (seriously undersized)into the final (tug-of-war) event, overall team placement was not a logical goal. Five "pulls" (against physically larger teams) later, however, the Titans had won the Tug-of-War and earned third place overall. Harnett County (17 Mar) and "Raider Virginia" (31 Mar) are next.
